Two new trackchair locations offer more ways to explore Colorado Springs trails this fall

~ Colorado Springs is expanding access to its trails this fall with free guided trackchair hikes at six parks and open spaces, including two locations new to the program.

From Sept. 30 through Oct. 31, participants can use all-terrain, motorized trackchairs to explore trails that may be difficult to navigate in a traditional wheelchair. New locations are Stratton Open Space, scheduled for Oct. 7-9, and Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site, scheduled for Oct. 10-11.

Hikes are also planned at Ute Valley Park from Sept. 30-Oct. 4, Blodgett Open Space from Oct. 14-18, Red Rock Canyon Open Space from Oct. 21-25, and Bluestem Prairie Open Space from Oct. 28-31.

Morning sessions run from 8 to 11 a.m., and afternoon sessions from noon to 3 p.m. Availability varies by date and session.

"One of the best things about this program is seeing someone experience a trail or explore one of our open spaces in a way they may not have thought was possible," Regional Parks Manager Scott Abbott said.

Participation is free, but advance registration is required. People can check availability, register or join a waitlist for full sessions at ColoradoSprings.gov/TrackChair.

The program is part of the city's effort to broaden access to outdoor recreation for people with varying abilities.
