DENVER ~ The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment has received $6.74 million from the U.S. Department of Labor to launch a program reimbursing employers for training new hires and current employees in high-priority industries.
The Colorado Industry-Driven Skills Training Initiative will provide outcome-based reimbursements covering up to 80% of eligible training costs, according to CDLE. The program is intended to help employers address changing skill requirements and local workforce needs.
Colorado is one of seven states awarded a combined $43 million in the second round of the federal Industry-Driven Skills Training Fund, the department said. The initiative will focus on advanced manufacturing, aerospace, AI infrastructure, information technology, nuclear energy and domestic mineral production.

Gov. Jared Polis said the investment would help residents enter new careers or advance in existing jobs while reducing employers' training costs. Lt. Gov. Dianne Primavera said it would support workforce development in industries including aerospace.
The program will operate through a state-managed digital portal, with CDLE overseeing a two-milestone reimbursement process. Local workforce areas will assist with regional intake, employer outreach and recruitment, and help participants enroll in Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Title I programs for support services.
Employers interested in participating are encouraged to contact a business service representative at their local workforce center. CDLE said eligibility requirements and application details will be posted on its Grants & Programs webpage as they become available.
