DENVER ~ Angelique Tolbert spent a day at the Colorado State Capitol learning about state government, meeting with agency officials and taking part in events marking Colorado's 150th birthday, according to a news release from Gov. Jared Polis' office.

Tolbert began with a cabinet meeting, then met with Colorado Parks and Wildlife staff to discuss wildlife and state parks. She later learned about child care access and universal preschool in a meeting with the Colorado Department of Early Childhood and received a briefing from members of the governor's executive team.

The release said Tolbert also signed a proclamation and celebrated the state's anniversary in Auraria.

"Being Governor for a Day taught me that good leaders listen, and how much state government can impact Coloradans' lives," Tolbert said. She said the experience gave her a new perspective on government and leadership.

Polis said Tolbert asked questions, listened closely and learned about state services, including parks and early childhood education. He said he was glad she had the opportunity to see what it is like to serve as Colorado's governor.
