Colorado Springs: Parks Advisory Board recommends community-serving future for former Meadows Park Community Center

Trending...
~ The Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Advisory Board voted Thursday to recommend selling the former Meadows Park Community Center property to CRE Holdings, with a proposed deed restriction requiring community-serving uses for 25 years.

The vote does not authorize the sale. The proposal is scheduled to go before Colorado Springs City Council at its Oct. 12 work session, and the council has final authority over the transfer.

CRE Holdings has identified childcare for working families, youth programming and aftercare partnerships as priority uses. The company has also emphasized access for lower-income households and continued investment in the facility. Specific tenants, programs and services have not been finalized.

The recommendation follows nearly a year of work with Stratton Meadows residents and community representatives to plan for the property after the center closed in October 2025. Community feedback highlighted access to services, social connection and safety, according to the city.

"The community helped shape what comes next for this property, and that input has stayed at the center of this process," said Kim King, assistant director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services. She said the goal was to find a sustainable future for the site that would continue to benefit Stratton Meadows.

After the closure, the city formed the Meadows Park Solutions Team, comprising residents, community leaders, City Council members and city staff. The group helped identify priorities including youth and childcare services, food access, senior and intergenerational programs, health and wellness, workforce and educational opportunities, and gathering space.

The city issued a competitive request for proposals in February and received three submissions. An evaluation committee that included neighborhood representatives selected CRE Holdings to advance, citing its experience, approach and anticipated community impact.

The company's past work includes the Lincoln Center, a former public school it redeveloped into a mix of businesses and services.
