~ North Stone Avenue between East Fillmore and 4th streets will close at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, for construction of an underground stormwater pipe, the city said. The closure is scheduled to continue through Friday, Nov. 20, with the road expected to reopen by then, weather permitting.
The work is part of the North Stone Avenue Stormwater Improvements Project, which the city says is intended to improve drainage and help reduce flooding.
Northbound drivers will be detoured east on East Fillmore Street, north on North El Paso Street and west on 4th Street to return to North Stone Avenue. Southbound through traffic from Nichols Street will be directed to North El Paso Street. Drivers heading to businesses south of 4th Street can use North El Paso Street, then turn west on 4th Street and south on North Stone Avenue.

The city said access to businesses will remain open, though routes may change during construction. North Stone Avenue will remain open to business access north of the closure, while southbound through traffic must follow the detour. Signs and cones will guide drivers.
On-street parking will be prohibited within the project work zone through early 2027, according to the city. North Stone Avenue will remain open to two-way traffic from the alley just north of McDonald's to 4th Street.
The project team will coordinate with nearby businesses to limit disruptions and maintain access. Drivers are advised to follow posted detours, allow extra travel time and use alternate routes when possible. The city said construction schedules may change depending on weather.
