DENVER ~ Colorado Gov. Jared Polis has ordered state agencies to take three steps aimed at easing fuel costs for motorists and agricultural producers, citing higher prices linked to the war with Iran.
The governor's office said Coloradans were paying an average of $4.18 per gallon for gasoline and $6.21 for diesel. The release did not specify when or how those averages were calculated.
Polis said the conflict was increasing oil costs and affecting families, farmers and businesses that transport goods. "Today, I am taking Executive Action to help save Coloradans money at the pump," he said, while calling for the United States to end its involvement in the war.
Under the executive order, the Colorado Department of Transportation will issue permits allowing trucks to carry more fuel on state highways, provided they meet safety requirements. The governor's office said the change is intended to reduce delivery costs and pass savings on to consumers.

The Colorado Department of Public Safety will refrain from enforcing the state prohibition on dyed diesel fuel on state highways through Dec. 31, 2026. The order directs the department not to conduct inspections or issue citations or take other enforcement action based on the presence of the fuel.
Dyed diesel is generally used for off-road purposes and is subject to restrictions on highway use. The order's stated scope is limited to state enforcement.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment will ask the federal Environmental Protection Agency to waive Reformulated Gasoline requirements for summer 2027, with the aim of increasing supply and lowering prices.
The governor's office said rising diesel costs were adding to expenses for farmers and ranchers. The release did not provide estimates of the expected savings from the measures.
