DENVER ~ Colorado Gov. Jared Polis expressed sorrow over the death of former state Supreme Court Justice Melissa Hart, praising her commitment to fairness and the rule of law.

Hart served on Colorado's highest court from 2017 to 2025. Polis said she would be remembered as a compassionate judge and a leader in family law and access to justice.

The governor offered condolences to Hart's family, friends and colleagues. He also announced that flags will be lowered to half-staff on the day of her memorial, once the date is set.
