Colorado Springs: Victim identified from September 19, 2026 homicide investigation

On September 19, 2026, at approximately 2:59 p.m., two adult females arrived at the Police Operations Center to report that there was a deceased male in a residence in the 4000 block of Tappan Drive. After receiving this initial information, officers from the Stetson Hills Division were sent to the address on Tappan Drive. At that location, officers found a deceased male inside the residence. Detectives from the Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. As a result of the investigation, one of the females who originally came to the POC, 62-year-old Sheldon "Shelly" Wilson, was arrested for Murder in the Second Degree and Tampering with a Deceased Body.

On September 21, 2026, the El Paso County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy on the deceased victim and, on September 24, 2026, identified him as 73-year-old Alan Groom of Colorado Springs. While the Coroner's Office will determine the cause and manner of death, CSPD is investigating this case as a homicide. A photo of Mr. Groom has been provided by the family below.

This was the 11th homicide in Colorado Springs this year.  Last year at this time, there were 25 homicides.
