Colorado Springs: Deceased pedestrian identified after August 19 crash at Garden of the Gods Road and Northpark Drive

~ In the early hours of August 19, 2026, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a report of a traffic accident at the intersection of Garden of the Gods Road and Northpark Drive. According to the initial investigation, a vehicle traveling eastbound on Garden of the Gods Road struck a pedestrian. Tragically, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities during their investigation. Due to the severity of the crash, detectives from CSPD's Major Crash Team were called in to take over the case. However, it has been determined that speed and alcohol were not contributing factors in this incident.

The following day, on August 20, CSPD was informed by the El Paso County Coroner's Office that the deceased pedestrian had been identified as 39-year-old Amanda Garcia.

This tragic event marks the 40th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs so far this year. In comparison, at this time last year, there were only 37 traffic fatalities reported in the city. Over the past year alone, there have been a total of 56 traffic-related deaths within Colorado Springs.
