~ Colorado Springs, CO - The Colorado Springs Police Department's (CSPD) Public Safety Communications Center has recently implemented a new artificial intelligence-assisted system called Prepared by Axon. This innovative technology is designed to improve the efficiency of call takers and dispatchers in processing information and ultimately enhance the delivery of public safety assistance to community members.
The CSPD Public Safety Communications Center is responsible for handling a wide range of calls, including life-threatening emergencies, non-emergency requests for police, fire, and medical services, as well as routine inquiries and service requests. With the implementation of Prepared by Axon, the goal is to streamline the call-taking process and ensure that appropriate resources are provided in a timely manner for all types of calls.
After testing the technology in April 2026, the Communications Center has now fully integrated Prepared by Axon into their operations. The system is currently assisting call takers with 911 calls by automatically transcribing conversations, translating them in real-time into dozens of languages, identifying critical details, generating and updating call summaries, and routing non-emergency calls to the appropriate departments.

While trained call takers will continue to handle all 911 calls, non-emergency calls will now be first answered by an artificial intelligence agent known as S.A.R.A.H. This change is expected to significantly reduce wait times for non-emergency callers and allow call takers to focus on emergency calls.
According to CSPD spokesperson John Smith, "Non-emergency calls make up over half of all telephone calls received by our Communications Center. By utilizing S.A.R.A.H., we can free up our call takers' time to focus on emergencies and improve response times for 911 calls."
S.A.R.A.H. is available 24/7 without any wait time. However, callers who prefer to speak with a person will still have that option. The Communications Center will regularly review the system's performance and update its information and responses to meet the changing needs of the community.
Prepared by Axon is expected to bring several benefits to the Communications Center, including keeping trained call takers and dispatchers focused on emergency calls, providing clearer and more current information to dispatchers and first responders, reducing wait times and transfers on the non-emergency line, and improving access to public safety services through real-time translation in multiple languages. Additionally, this technology will help utilize limited public safety resources, technology, and personnel more efficiently.
