~ The Colorado Springs Police Department and TESSA will hold a joint media availability Sept. 30 to recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month and highlight support for survivors.
The event is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the CSPD Police Operations Center, 705 S. Nevada Ave. Representatives from both organizations and a survivor who has used TESSA's services are expected to attend.
CSPD officers, detectives and victim advocates investigate domestic violence and connect people affected by abuse with services, including advocacy, emergency shelter, safety planning and ongoing support. The department also works with TESSA and the 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office.
TESSA has donated purple magnet patches for CSPD vehicles, which will display them throughout October. Purple represents courage and survival, and the patches are intended to make support for survivors visible across the community.

"Domestic violence is a community problem, and one that we must address as a community," CSPD Chief Adrian Vasquez said. He added that supporting survivors, holding offenders accountable and working with community partners can help break the cycle of violence.
TESSA CEO Anne Markley said survivors deserve to know their community sees and believes them and is ready to help. She said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to ensuring no one faces domestic violence alone.
CSPD said domestic violence affects people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, and that many survivors experience repeated abuse before they can seek help.
People experiencing domestic violence can report it to CSPD at 719-444-7000. Those in immediate danger should call 911.
