MESA COUNTY ~ MESA COUNTY - Governor Jared Polis made a visit to Mesa County today, where he toured the towns of Grand Junction and Palisade. The main purpose of his visit was to assess the situation at the Turner Gulch fire and express his gratitude to the first responders and emergency personnel who have been working tirelessly to contain the blaze.

At the Incident Command Post for the Turner Gulch fire, Governor Polis was briefed on the current containment efforts. He took this opportunity to thank all those involved in protecting Coloradans and their communities from this devastating wildfire. He made a stop at Talbott Farms, a peach farm in Palisade that is known as the largest producer of peaches in Colorado. The governor even got his hands dirty by picking some peaches himself. The governor's final stop was at the Palisade Insectary, a facility run by the Colorado Department of Agriculture that has been helping Western Slope farmers combat pests for 80 years. Governor Polis joined in on their 80th-anniversary celebration and commended their innovative research scientists and biologists for their contributions towards strengthening Mesa County's way of life and supporting local farmers.

In his speech at the insectary, Governor Polis expressed his excitement about seeing what great work and partnerships will come from this landmark facility in its next 80 years. He emphasized how crucial it is to have such facilities that support sustainable agriculture for generations to come.
