DENVER ~ In a move to address the ongoing housing crisis in Colorado, Governor Polis has taken executive action to update and supplement previous efforts to increase housing supply and make it more affordable for residents. This decision comes after the initial executive action taken in May, which aimed to break down barriers and increase the availability of affordable housing.
The updated action includes releasing a list of impacted grants and directing state agencies to prioritize future grant funding for communities that are actively working towards creating more affordable housing in compliance with state law. Governor Polis emphasized the importance of this action, stating that it is crucial to lower the cost of living for Coloradans.

"We are building more housing now and breaking down government barriers to new homes," said Governor Polis. "It is more important than ever to lower the cost of living. This action will lead to more housing that people can afford."
Colorado has been at the forefront of efforts to lower the cost of housing and remove government barriers that hinder new construction. Under Governor Polis' leadership, landmark laws have been signed to allow for more housing options near transit, eliminate discriminatory occupancy limits, costly parking requirements, and legalize smart-stair apartments. These measures have also jump-started starter home condo construction.
The governor's actions have been met with praise from advocates for affordable housing who see this as a step in the right direction towards addressing the state's growing housing crisis. With these updates in place, it is hoped that Colorado will continue to lead by example in making affordable housing a reality for its residents.
