DENVER ~ Denver - In a move to address the ongoing wildfire crisis in Colorado, Governor Polis has signed an Executive Order today to officially recognize the verbal disaster declaration made on July 13, 2025. The severe weather event that occurred on that day resulted in dangerous fire conditions in Delta, Mesa, and Montrose Counties.

The weather event sparked over twenty lightning-caused wildfires across the western slope of Colorado, with some still burning uncontained. Among these fires are the South Rim Fire in Montrose County, the Turner Gulch Fire in Mesa County, and the Deer Creek Fire in Montrose County.

The verbal orders issued by Governor Polis activated the State Emergency Operations Plan and directed state agencies to seek federal funding for response and recovery efforts.
