Hope One Walk launches a six-month journey from Santa Monica Pier to New York City to raise awareness for burn survivors and long-term recovery.
DENVER - ColoradoDesk -- On January 4, 2027, burn survivor and nonprofit founder Corey Halstead will take the first step of a journey spanning more than 3,000 miles across America.
Beginning at Santa Monica Pier and ending in New York City, Hope One Walk will travel across the country over approximately six months to raise awareness for burn survivors and the realities of long-term recovery.
But for Halstead, the journey is about much more than walking.
"I survived my burn injury, but survival was only the beginning," Halstead said. "There is a part of recovery that happens after the surgeries, after the hospital stays and after everyone expects life to somehow return to normal. That is the part people don't always see."

Hope One Walk is an initiative of Colorado-based nonprofit Healing Home Group, which is working toward transitional housing and continued support for burn survivors following hospitalization.
Along the route, Hope One Walk plans to visit burn centers, connect with survivors and families, recognize healthcare professionals and first responders, engage local communities and share survivor stories.
The opening Southern California portion of the journey will include Santa Monica, West Hills, Los Angeles, Torrance, Orange County and San Diego before continuing east across the United States.
The journey will also be documented through digital and social media, with plans for ongoing livestream coverage that allows people across the country to follow along.
The newly launched http://HopeOneWalk.com serves as the central hub for the mission, route, updates and ways to get involved.

"I'm walking because there are survivors who need to know that their story didn't end when they were burned," Halstead said. "I'm walking for the families who watched someone they love fight to survive. I'm walking for the people in burn units who give everything they have to help us heal. And I'm walking because I believe hope can travel."
On January 4, that hope will leave Santa Monica Pier on foot.
And America is invited to walk with it.
