FORT COLLINS ~ Colorado Gov. Jared Polis visited the Colorado State Forest Service Nursery in Fort Collins to see upgrades intended to increase production of seedlings for forest restoration and conservation.
The nursery, on Colorado State University's Foothills Campus, has undergone a major renovation supported by more than $15 million in combined state and federal investment. The work added greenhouse and shade-house space, improved irrigation systems and a new headhouse designed to modernize and mechanize seeding operations.
The upgraded facility is expected to produce one to two million container seedlings a year. The trees and shrubs are intended for projects to restore forests, protect watersheds, improve wildlife habitat and support recovery after wildfires and other natural disasters, according to the state.

"Coloradans depend on healthy forests for clean air, good-paying jobs and the outdoor lifestyle we love," Polis said in a statement. He said the nursery is growing trees to help forests recover for future generations.
The visit follows Polis' 2023 visit to the nursery, where he signed House Bill 23-1060. The law provided funding to modernize the nursery and its seed storage system, according to the release.
The Colorado State Forest Service provides forestry assistance, wildfire mitigation expertise, outreach and education to landowners and communities. It is a service and outreach agency of Colorado State University's Office of Engagement and Extension and provides staffing for the Division of Forestry within the Colorado Department of Natural Resources.
