~ Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade held a press briefing today to reflect on the city's progress in 2025 and share his priorities for the upcoming year. The mayor emphasized that the city's success is a result of collaboration among various stakeholders, including residents, city employees, nonprofits, businesses, military partners, and regional organizations.

"Colorado Springs is flourishing, and we are flourishing together," Mayor Yemi stated. "This year presented challenges, but through strong partnerships and dedicated leadership, we have made significant strides that have positively impacted the daily lives of our residents."

During his remarks, Mayor Yemi highlighted ten key accomplishments from 2025. These include historic gains in public safety staffing with the Colorado Springs Police Department reaching over 800 sworn officers and the 911 Call Center increasing its staffing levels to improve response times. The opening of Fire Station 24 also contributed to faster emergency response times in a rapidly growing area.

The city also saw a decrease in crime rates with increased traffic enforcement and declines in robbery, burglary, murder, and motor vehicle theft. In addition to these efforts, the City advanced safety technology such as the Real Time Crime Center and Drone as a First Responder program.

Infrastructure improvements were also a focus for the city in 2025. Over 187 lane-miles were repaved and more than 74,000 potholes were repaired. Major projects like the Circle Bridges and the new Colorado Springs Senior Center were also advanced to better serve the growing senior population.

The Colorado Springs Airport achieved a milestone by launching its first direct international flight, providing more travel options for residents and supporting local jobs and tourism. Economic growth was also evident with new agreements being made throughout the year. The recent announcement of Swire Coca-Cola's $475 million manufacturing facility is expected to create jobs and drive private investment.

Affordable housing was another priority for Mayor Yemi in 2025. Approximately 1,700 affordable housing units were opened or are currently under construction, providing more options for families, seniors, and young adults. The city also raised $860,000 to expand winter shelter capacity and launched a free-fare pilot program with Mountain Metro Transit to support transportation to warming spaces during extreme cold.

Mayor Yemi also highlighted the progress made in mental health support. Suicide rates decreased by 18% across El Paso County and 60% among young people due to expanded prevention efforts and community support.

Looking ahead to 2026, Mayor Yemi outlined three major priorities for the city. The first is the launch of the Keep It Clean and Safe (KICAS) program, which aims to provide proactive support for businesses and commercial areas impacted by homelessness. This initiative builds on the success of the Downtown Clean & Safe pilot program.

The city will also continue to focus on job creation and business investment through Peak Innovation Park. More announcements are expected in the coming months regarding this cornerstone project.

Lastly, Mayor Yemi emphasized the importance of a balanced approach to growth. This includes investing in infrastructure and family-friendly neighborhoods while also addressing housing solutions and economic development in a way that strengthens communities over time.

Mayor Yemi concluded his remarks by acknowledging two historic anniversaries that will take place in 2026 - the United States' 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and Colorado's 150th anniversary of joining the Union. He encouraged residents to reflect on these milestones and take pride in their community.

As Colorado Springs closes out another successful year, Mayor Yemi's priorities for 2026 demonstrate a continued commitment to public safety, economic growth, and balanced development for all residents. With collaboration at its core, the city is poised for even greater achievements in the years ahead.
