Colorado: Lieutenant Governor Primavera Appoints Shelby L. Fyles to the 23rd Judicial District Court

DENVER ~ Denver - In a move to fill a vacancy in the 23rd Judicial District Court, Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera has appointed Shelby L. Fyles as the newest judge. This decision was made under her authority as acting Governor, in accordance with the Colorado Constitution, Article IV, § 13. The position became available due to the retirement of Honorable Elizabeth B. Volz and will officially be effective on February 2, 2026.

Ms. Fyles brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having served as an Associate Judge for the City of Aurora since 2023. In this position, she has primarily handled municipal matters. Prior to that, she held various roles in the legal field including Senior Lead Deputy District Attorney (2021-2023), Senior Deputy District Attorney for the Child Victim Unit (2019-2022), Senior Deputy District Attorney for General Felonies (2017-2019), and Deputy District Attorney at the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office (2012-2017).

With an impressive educational background, Ms. Fyles earned her Bachelor of Science degree from American University in 2006 and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 2011.
