DENVER ~ Denver - In a ceremony held today, Governor Jared Polis of Colorado signed SB25-073, also known as the Military-Connected Children With Disabilities bill. The bill, sponsored by Senators Larry Liston and Janice Marchman, and Representatives Rebecca Keltie and Matthew Martinez, aims to provide support for military families with children who have disabilities.
Joined by Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera, Governor Polis expressed his gratitude towards the bill sponsors for their work on this important legislation. He emphasized the sacrifices made by military families to keep the country safe and stated that Colorado is committed to ensuring that these families receive the necessary support to thrive.
The bill guarantees that military-connected children with disabilities in Colorado will have access to their existing education program upon enrollment in a Colorado school. This will ensure continuity and stability for these students during school transitions.
Lt. Governor Primavera also spoke at the ceremony, stating that this bill will help ease the burden of school transitions for military-connected children with disabilities. She emphasized the importance of providing clarity and continuity for these students so they can stay on track and feel supported from day one at a new school.

This bill, sponsored by Representatives Karen McCormick and Kyle Brown, and Senators Mike Weissman and Katie Wallace, requires death certificates to reflect a person's preferred gender.
Governor Polis also signed several other bills into law administratively during the ceremony:
* HB25-1137 - Adopt a Shelter Pet Account Community Cats
* SB25-188 - Fiscal Year 2025-26 Legislative Appropriation Bill
* SB25-171 - Sunset Commodity Metals Theft Task Force

However, Governor Polis vetoed one bill, SB25-077, which proposed modifications to the Colorado Open Records Act. In his veto statement, the Governor stated that the bill did not adequately balance the public's right to know with the need for government efficiency and transparency.
In conclusion, Governor Polis expressed his commitment to building a Colorado For All where everyone can thrive, regardless of their identity. He stated that Colorado will continue to be a state that protects and welcomes the LGBTQ community and thanked all those involved in passing these important bills into law.
