COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - ColoradoDesk -- Colorado Springs, CO – Poor Richard's, a beloved local institution that began as a humble bookstore and eatery, is proud to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year. What started in 1975 as Poor Richard's Bookstore and became Poor Richard's Feed and Read in 1977 —has blossomed into a thriving family of businesses that have served generations of Colorado Springs residents with food, books, gifts, toys, coffee, wine and community.
Founded by Richard Skorman, Poor Richard's quickly became a downtown hub for curious minds, good eats, and meaningful conversation. The concept expanded in 1995 with the opening of Little Richard's Toy Store, co-founded by Patricia Seator, Skorman's wife and business partner. Little Richard's brought imaginative and educational play to the next generation, helping create a family-friendly downtown destination.
In 2005, the campus grew again with the launch of Rico's Café & Wine Bar, offering a cozy setting for conversation over coffee or a glass of wine, live music, and community events. Also in 2005, the Bookstore became Poor Richard's Books & Gifts, offering a wide selection of gifts, stationery and greeting cards along with the miles of new and gently used books.
