Colorado Springs: Traffic patterns shifting on Tejon Street downtown

Trending...
~ As the Tejon Street Revitalization Project reaches its halfway mark, motorists and pedestrians in Colorado Springs can expect some changes in traffic patterns starting on Monday, Aug. 18. The project, which aims to improve public safety, pedestrian accessibility and business activity, will bring about a full closure of Block 1 on Tejon Street from Colorado Avenue to Pikes Peak Avenue.

During this time, milling, paving and striping work will take place and sidewalks will remain open for pedestrians. The block is expected to reopen for two-way vehicle traffic and on-street diagonal parking as early as Monday, Aug. 25.

In addition, there may be a potential lane shift on northbound Tejon Street north of Pikes Peak Avenue as Colorado Springs Utilities performs electric system work. Work crews may also begin removing and replacing concrete on the southeast corner of the block.

Starting Sept. 2 until further notice, Block 2 on Tejon Street from Pikes Peak Avenue to East Kiowa Street will be fully closed to vehicle traffic in both directions. This closure is necessary for sidewalk, patio and street improvements to take place. However, pedestrian routes will remain open to provide access to businesses.

It is important to note that street parking will not be available until further notice for businesses on this block. However, they will receive vouchers for two hours of free parking at the three City garages nearby.

The Tejon Street Revitalization Project has been designed with the goal of expanding outdoor dining areas and sidewalks in order to increase public safety, pedestrian accessibility and business activity.
