Colorado Springs: Jet Wing Drive to close at South Academy Boulevard Oct. 15-17

Trending...
~ Jet Wing Drive at South Academy Boulevard will close from 7 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, while crews inspect a sewer pipe that is more than 50 years old, according to the South Academy Boulevard Improvements Project team.

The closure will not block nearby driveways. Residents, employees and customers can access Jet Wing Drive from Hancock Expressway. The project team said it has coordinated with Colorado Springs Fire Department Station 11 to maintain emergency access.

For the north detour, drivers should turn east from South Academy Boulevard onto Hancock Expressway, then south onto Jet Wing Drive. For the south detour, drivers can take Boychuk Avenue north to Hancock Expressway and continue east to Jet Wing Drive. Drivers on South Academy Boulevard can also use Hancock Expressway to reach Jet Wing Drive.

The project team advises drivers to slow down, follow signs, watch for workers and equipment, and allow extra travel time. Alternate routes are encouraged when possible. Work is weather-dependent, and schedules may change.

The voter-approved Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority project aims to improve safety, traffic flow, pedestrian access and drainage along the corridor. It is the first major reconstruction of South Academy Boulevard since it opened in 1969. Updates are available at ColoradoSprings.gov/AcademyBlvdImprovements.
