DENVER ~ Colorado's ninth annual Free Application Days will run from Oct. 20 to 22, 2026, with all 31 public colleges and universities and many private institutions waiving application fees, the Colorado Department of Higher Education and Gov. Jared Polis announced.
The fee waivers are available to Colorado residents applying to undergraduate programs, including associate and bachelor's degrees, certificates and other eligible credentials. Waiver procedures vary by institution, and CDHE has posted instructions for participating schools. Community colleges and area technical colleges waive application fees year-round, the department said.
"Colorado Free Application Days encourages more students and learners to take the next step towards a successful education and career journey," Polis said. He said more than 70,000 Coloradans submitted applications during the previous year's event, saving $2.4 million in fees.

In 2025, students submitted 71,504 applications, a 9% increase from 2024, according to the announcement. It said 36% of applications came from first-generation students and 49% were submitted by students of color.
CDHE Executive Director JB Holston said the initiative is intended to help people at different stages of life explore education and training options, including recent high school graduates, returning students and people seeking workforce skills.
The department cited data indicating that 77% of Colorado's "Top Jobs" typically require a postsecondary credential for entry. It also said about half of Colorado high school graduates immediately enroll in postsecondary education, while FAFSA completion rates remain below desired levels.
Students are encouraged to begin applications in advance, prepare materials such as essays and transcripts, and submit applications during the three-day waiver period. CDHE also recommends completing the FAFSA or CASFA to explore eligibility for financial aid, including grants, scholarships and work-study.
A list of participating institutions and their fee-waiver instructions is available through CDHE.
