DENVER ~ Peter Daniell, a student at Stargate Charter School in Broomfield, won the 2026 National Civics Bee Championship in Washington, D.C., according to a press release from Colorado officials.

Daniell also received the Bill Daniels National Civics Award and a $100,000 contribution to a 529 education savings plan, the release said.

He secured the title by correctly identifying the Whiskey Rebellion, an uprising by farmers who opposed a federal tax on distilled spirits during George Washington's presidency.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis congratulated Daniell, saying the win reflected his hard work and Colorado's commitment to education. Polis said the competition brings students together to demonstrate their civics knowledge and encourages young people to learn how government works.

He also urged students to take part in civic life and help shape discussions about the country's future.
