~ The City of Colorado Springs is asking its residents to provide their feedback on potential names for the new Senior Center. Construction of the new facility is expected to begin in August and will be a larger, safer, and more accommodating space for patrons.
Ryan Trujillo, the City's deputy chief of staff, said "We know our senior center is an important place for community members, and we're excited to build a new facility with intent and purpose. We believe the timing is right to thoughtfully engage with community members on the center's name."
A survey has been launched today with possible names that will remain open until March 24th, 2023. The City's project team will consider public feedback before making a final decision on the name. Options in the survey include: Colorado Springs Senior Center, Center for Active Seniors, The Encore, The Hub at Hancock, and an open-ended write-in option.

The renovation of the Senior Center is funded by $8 million from the American Rescue Plan Act. The new center will be built at N. Hancock Avenue and E. Caramillo Street just east of the existing building which will be demolished. This site was chosen from four options within Golf Acres based on feedback from current Senior Center patrons, service providers, community members, and other stakeholders in order to maximize parking space, improve traffic flow and accessibility, as well as add more functional outdoor space.
The Colorado Springs Senior Center is owned by the City and operated by YMCA of Pikes Peak Region through an innovative partnership with a mission to offer quality of life experiences that are creative, social and physical in nature to adults 55 years of age or older. Residents are encouraged to provide their input on potential names for this important facility before March 24th so that it can accurately reflect its purpose and offerings for years to come.
