DENVER ~ Denver, CO - In remembrance of the tragic events that occurred on September 11th, 2001, Governor Jared Polis has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in Colorado. The order was announced today and will be in effect from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, September 11th, 2025.
Governor Polis released a statement expressing the significance of this day and honoring the victims of the terrorist attack. He stated, "Almost a quarter of a century ago, the safety and security of the United States was shaken like never before. While our nation may have been forever changed, we have grown stronger and more resilient." He continued by acknowledging the lives lost on that tragic day and paying tribute to the first responders who bravely risked their lives to help others. The governor also extended his condolences to the families who still feel the pain of losing a loved one.
The order for flags to be flown at half-staff was given by President Donald Trump in honor of Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University earlier today. The flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on Sunday, September 14th.

Governor Polis also released a statement regarding Kirk's passing. He condemned the act of violence and called for unity during these challenging times. "Political violence is never acceptable," he stated. "Any divisions we face will never be solved by trying to hurt each other." The governor expressed his sympathy for Kirk's friends and family during this difficult time and urged everyone to peacefully disagree with one another.
President Trump's proclamation was also included in the press release. In it, he ordered that all flags be flown at half-staff at the White House and all public buildings and grounds until sunset on September 14th. This includes all military posts and naval stations as well as naval vessels throughout the United States.
The president's proclamation also extends to all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad. This includes military facilities and naval vessels stationed overseas.
As the nation remembers the lives lost on September 11th, 2001 and mourns the passing of Charlie Kirk, both Governor Polis and President Trump have called for unity and peace during these trying times. The flags flying at half-staff serve as a reminder to honor those who have been affected by these tragic events and to come together as a nation.
