~ Colorado Springs, CO- In the early hours of August 24, 2025, a tragic traffic crash occurred on East Platte Avenue. The Colorado Springs Police Department received a call for service at approximately 2:15 a.m. reporting the incident. According to initial information, a vehicle traveling eastbound on Platte Avenue veered off the road and collided with a tree on the south side.
Upon arrival, responding officers discovered multiple victims inside the vehicle. Sadly, one female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The Major Crash Team was immediately notified and took over the investigation due to the severity of the crash. Two other passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggest that alcohol may have played a role in the accident. The El Paso County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy on August 25, identifying the deceased victim as 22-year-old Jessenya Gaytan. A photo of Ms. Gaytan has been provided by her family.
This tragic incident marks the 38th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year alone, surpassing last year's total of 37 fatalities at this time. In the past year, there have been a total of 50 traffic fatalities in this area.
The Colorado Springs Police Department urges drivers to always practice safe driving habits and avoid driving under the influence to prevent such devastating accidents from occurring in the future. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Ms. Gaytan's family and loved ones during this difficult time.
