TRINIDAD ~ Trinidad, Colorado - The Business Funding & Incentives Division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development & International Trade (OEDIT) has announced that Bird & Squirrel Hydroponics, LLC has been accepted into the Rural Jump-Start Program. This pioneering hydroponics business is focused on cultivating and supplying high-quality herbs and leafy greens, as well as developing advanced hydroponic systems and technology. The company's expansion into Trinidad is expected to create new jobs and contribute to the diversification of the local economy.

Governor Jared Polis expressed his excitement about Bird & Squirrel's decision to make their home in Trinidad, stating that their investment will not only support the local economy but also bring cutting-edge technology to support sustainable agriculture. OEDIT Executive Director Eve Lieberman also praised the company's expansion into Las Animas County, highlighting the innovation and economic growth it will bring to the community.

Bird & Squirrel Hydroponics is committed to sustainable farming practices through their use of advanced hydroponic techniques. Their focus on year-round production of fresh, pesticide-free produce aligns with Colorado's rich agricultural industry. In addition to supplying high-quality herbs and greens to regional restaurants, the company also offers custom hydroponic systems for personal and business use, as well as small-scale manufacturing of an AI automated hydroponic controller.

The Rural Jump-Start (RJS) program aims to encourage economic development and job creation in economically distressed rural counties in Colorado. Businesses that start or move into RJS zones are eligible for relief from state business income tax, sales and use tax, county/municipal business personal property taxes, and state personal income tax for qualified employees. In addition, businesses can receive a general operating grant of up to $20,000 to support regional economic and workforce development activities.

Trinidad State College, a sponsoring entity for the RJS program, played a crucial role in identifying Bird & Squirrel Hydroponics as a candidate and will continue to work with the company to ensure its success in the program and the community.
