~ The City of Colorado Springs and PikeRide have joined forces to improve accessibility and connectivity in Old Colorado City. In a collaborative effort, the two organizations have repurposed two parking spaces around a large tree in the 26th parking lot into a new ebike station.
This partnership was born out of a desire to enhance connectivity while also preserving a beloved tree. The new PikeRide station, which can accommodate eight bikes, including both PikeRides and personal bikes, is strategically located to encourage increased access to local businesses and community resources within Old Colorado City and beyond. This initiative also provides residents and visitors with a reliable and eco-friendly transportation option.
According to Richard Mulledy, Public Works Director for the City of Colorado Springs, this project was seen as a win-win for all parties involved. "When we considered removing the tree to save two parking spaces or saving the tree but losing two parking spaces, we thought this might be a better option," he stated. Mulledy currently oversees the City's Parking Enterprise.
