~ Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is gearing up for a strong summer season after reporting lower-than-average passenger numbers in recent months. According to the latest statistics, the airport saw a total of 220,982 passengers in May, marking a 1.9 percent increase from the same month in 2024.
This increase in passenger traffic is a positive sign for COS, which has been working towards long-term growth through its efforts to promote and attract air service. In fact, seat availability has also seen a significant increase of 5.7 percent year-over-year, setting the stage for a robust 2025 as travel demand is expected to rise throughout the summer.
However, despite the overall growth in passenger numbers, the average load factor for May stood at 85.6 percent, showing a slight decrease of 2.3 percent from May 2024.
In addition to these promising numbers, there have been notable updates at COS that are sure to enhance the overall travel experience for passengers. Southwest Airlines has started seasonal international service to Cancun (CUN) from June 7 to August 2, with plans to resume flights on November 22 and 29, December 20 and 27, and January 3, 2026. Tickets for these flights are now available for purchase.
Furthermore, the new Federal Inspection Station (FIS) is now open at COS for international flights. This will make it easier and more convenient for travelers flying internationally through COS.
