FORT COLLINS ~ Fort Collins, Colorado - In a recent announcement, Governor Jared Polis expressed his support for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) expansion plans in Colorado. The governor commended the USDA for recognizing Colorado as a leader in agricultural excellence and an important economic driver in the industry.

Governor Polis stated, "It is no surprise that Fort Collins has been chosen as a new service center by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Colorado is a national leader in agriculture, supporting rural communities and creating jobs in the industry." He also praised Secretary Rollins for his efforts to strengthen partnerships between state and federal agencies.

The governor also highlighted the positive impact this expansion will have on Colorado's economy. "Especially with the loss of federal jobs in other areas, we welcome the new Department of Agriculture jobs being moved to Colorado," he said.

Colorado has a strong history in farming and ranching, as well as in natural and organic foods, craft beverages, and global restaurant franchises. The state's agricultural sector generates over $5 billion in economic output annually and exports products to more than 100 countries worldwide. With an average of 115,000 Coloradans employed in the food and agriculture industry, it plays a significant role in the state's economy.

The USDA's first phase plan for reorganization includes creating service centers across the country. Fort Collins was listed as one of five new hubs, along with Raleigh, North Carolina; Kansas City, Missouri; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Salt Lake City, Utah.

In addition to supporting this expansion plan, Governor Polis also urged the Trump administration to end their tariff policies that have negatively impacted the agriculture community and economy. With this move by the USDA to expand its presence in Colorado, it is clear that the state's efforts to promote its agricultural sector are being recognized at a national level.
