~ Colorado Springs, CO - The City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services (PRCS) Department is inviting residents to join in the celebration of Park and Recreation Month throughout July. This month-long event will feature a variety of free activities, contests and events that highlight the important role that parks and recreation play in creating healthy, vibrant and connected communities.
The theme for this year's Park and Recreation Month is "The Power Of", which recognizes the vital role that parks and recreation play in strengthening communities and enriching lives. From neighborhood parks to community centers, trails to cultural programs, these spaces foster connection, play, belonging, well-being and a deeper appreciation for nature.
According to Skyler Rorabaugh, director of the City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department, "Parks and recreation are at the heart of what makes Colorado Springs such a special place to live. They bring people together advancing connected communities, create lasting memories and strengthen our health and well-being." Rorabaugh encourages residents of all ages to take part in this month's events and explore new recreation or cultural programs while celebrating the parks, trails and programs that make their community vibrant, resilient and healthy.

Residents are invited to participate in a variety of free activities throughout July including a coloring contest. All ages can color a special 2026 Park and Recreation Month coloring sheet and share what they love most about parks and recreation for a chance to be featured on social media channels. Winners will be announced in August.
Another exciting event is the Outdoor Movie & Silent Disco at Hillside Community Center on July 10th. Families are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and their dancing shoes for this free event. Food trucks will be available starting at 5:30 p.m., followed by a silent disco at 6 p.m. The movie will take place outdoors (weather permitting) with the event concluding at 8 p.m.
On July 17th, residents can enjoy a free concert featuring the SofaKillers at Piñon Valley Park. This event will also feature food trucks, a youth kickball game, giveaways and more. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for an evening of live music in the park. Food trucks and kickball game registration will open at 6 p.m., followed by music and the kickball game at 6:30 p.m. Giveaways will take place at 7:15 p.m., with the event concluding at 8:30 p.m.
