~ As the summer season approaches, Pikes Peak - America's Mountain is offering a unique opportunity for visitors to witness the stunning vistas at dawn from 14,000 feet. The iconic peak in Colorado will have five special early openings this summer and fall, allowing guests to experience a sunrise like never before.
According to Skyler Rorabaugh, Manager of Pikes Peak - America's Mountain, the Sunrise Openings offer a chance to witness the breathtaking beauty of dawn while also providing a moment of peace and tranquility. "It's truly magical," Rorabaugh said. This year, the experience has been enhanced with the addition of shuttle service for a guided tour to the summit.
The special Sunrise Openings will take place on July 12, July 18, August 1, September 27, and October 13. Gates will open at different times depending on the date: 4:30 a.m. on July 12, 18 & August 1; 5:00 a.m. on September 27; and 5:30 a.m. on October 13. The last entry for visitors will be at 6:30 a.m. on all dates.
To participate in this unique experience, guests must purchase timed entry permits in advance online for $2 per vehicle. In addition to this fee, standard admission prices apply - $18 per adult, $8 for children ages 6-15, and free for children under five years old. Alternatively, guests can purchase a carload one day admission (up to five passengers) for $65.

It is important to note that during sunrise events, the North Slope Recreation Area will be closed. To make it easier for visitors to reach the summit during these early hours, shuttle tickets are available for purchase at $35 for adults and $10 for children ages six to fifteen (children under five ride free). The shuttles will depart from The North Pole - Santa's Workshop parking lot, located just 0.3 miles from the Pikes Peak Highway entrance. Guests are advised to arrive by 4:15 a.m. to ensure a timely departure.
The shuttle service to the summit will begin at 4:30 a.m., and after witnessing the sunrise, return shuttles will leave approximately one hour later, giving guests time to explore, shop, or enjoy a famous summit donut. It is important to note that all guests must return on the shuttle; no highway stops will be made on the descent.
Space is limited for both timed entry permits and shuttle tickets, and all special events are weather permitting. It is also worth noting that the Cog Railway will not be operational for sunrise trips this season.
