~ As the Fourth of July approaches, the residents of Colorado Springs are reminded that America is more than just a place, it is a promise. A promise of freedom, opportunity, and a shared destiny. And like any great promise, it must be renewed not just in words, but in actions.
This year marks the 249th anniversary of the courageous declaration of independence by a group of visionaries who sought to create a future based on unalienable rights. These rights included life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. While they were not perfect individuals, they were united in their purpose.
Yemi Mobolade, the Mayor of Olympic City USA and someone whose life was transformed by the American Dream, reflects on the power of unity that still exists today. As an immigrant to this country, Mobolade came with hope in his heart for opportunity and belonging. He found these things in serving veterans and active-duty military families, witnessing the resilience of small business owners, observing the selfless work of city employees, and experiencing the strength of a community that embraces diversity.

This year has also brought perspective for Mayor Mobolade as he faced personal health challenges. It reminded him that life is precious and community is sacred. He emphasizes that freedom is not something we inherit once and for all; it is something we must continue to protect together.
On this Independence Day, Mayor Mobolade urges everyone to remember that freedom is not about standing alone but standing together as one nation. Patriotism should not be a partisan word but a commitment to the well-being of all neighbors. And as fireworks light up the Colorado Springs sky tonight, let them also ignite within us a renewed spirit of gratitude for those who came before us and for the blessings we enjoy today.
Mayor Mobolade's message to his fellow residents is one of unity and hope for future generations. As we celebrate this day with our families and loved ones, let us remember that the American flag does not represent perfection, but rather our shared hope for a more perfect union.
From Mayor Mobolade's family to yours, he wishes everyone a joyful, safe, and united Independence Day. May the promise of America burn brighter than ever in our skies, in our hearts, in our city, and in our nation. Let us continue to move onward and upward together.
