~ Colorado Springs, CO - The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has recently announced the launch of their new Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC), a specialized unit that aims to support officers and detectives in their response to calls for service and investigations. This new center is staffed by an analyst and detectives who have access to real-time information from department records, law enforcement databases, and other integrated technologies. This increased access to immediate information is expected to improve officer safety, community member safety, and investigative efficiency.
The RTCC is made operational through the use of a technology platform called Fusus. This map-based integration tool combines private and public video streams, camera locations, law enforcement data, floor plans, live positions of first responders, live drone footage, and more. The information gathered is then provided to RTCC personnel who can distribute it to responding officers or detectives as needed. This allows for greater situational awareness and a common operating picture for all involved. What used to take hours or even days can now be done in a matter of minutes.

While the RTCC is run by CSPD, there is also a community involvement aspect called Together COS. This program has two parts - camera registration and camera integration - which allow individuals and businesses in the community to share information with CSPD in order to make the community safer.
Through camera registration, community members can sign up with Fusus to inform CSPD that they have personal security cameras at their home or business. By doing so, it becomes easier for officers to conduct follow-up investigations in a neighborhood where a crime occurred by contacting those who have cameras. Officers or detectives can email everyone in the vicinity of the crime asking them to search their video for any suspicious activity. Users can then upload the video directly to the link provided by the detective. It's important to note that providing video footage is completely voluntary and registering your camera does not give CSPD open access to your cameras or video.
The second option, camera integration, is primarily designed for businesses in the community. By purchasing a Fusus core, businesses can integrate their security cameras with CSPD. In the event of a serious crime, detectives will have instant access to review the video camera recordings and can download the footage for use in their investigation. This is especially helpful in situations like an active shooter, where live streaming of the cameras can help identify and locate potential suspects.

The final component of the RTCC is the drones as first responders program. This new initiative allows for a drone to be dispatched to certain types of calls in order to gather more information for responding officers. The information collected by the drone can help dispatchers at the public safety communication center determine the appropriate level of emergency response needed and relay that information to responding officers. In some cases, dispatchers may also be able to provide information about victim or suspect locations or even cancel a call if it is determined that there is no emergency taking place. By utilizing drones, patrol resources can be dispatched more efficiently to urgent calls within the community, resulting in lower response times and increased safety.
The CSPD is proud of this new and innovative program that aims to improve response efficiency and make the community safer. To learn more about Together COS and how you can get involved, please visit https://coloradosprings.gov/together-cos.
