According to the report, these natural areas generated over $90 million in economic value from 22 million annual visits in 2024.

Jessie Kimber, City Economic Development Officer, emphasized the importance of investing in parks and recreational facilities, stating that they not only create green spaces but also cultivate a vibrant economy in Colorado Springs.
One of the key findings from the report is that there were approximately 22 million visits to parks and trails in one year alone. This translates to an estimated recreational use value of $91.6 million. Additionally, well-maintained parks have also had a positive impact on real estate in Colorado Springs, with surrounding home values increasing by $1.1 billion and generating an additional $3.8 million in yearly property tax revenue.

The economic boost from outdoor recreation is also evident, with local spending on outdoor gear, recreation fees, and admissions to parks and museums contributing approximately $192.9 million to the economy in 2024. Furthermore, direct travel spending linked to Colorado Springs' stunning outdoor spaces surpassed $268.6 million in 2023 and contributed $10.1 million in local tax revenue.
Aside from its economic benefits, parks also play a crucial role in promoting healthier lifestyles for residents and cutting healthcare costs. The report estimates that active lifestyles nurtured by these natural spaces result in annual savings of $73.7 million on healthcare for residents. Adults aged 18-65 save an average of $1,540 per year while seniors benefit from average savings of $3,096.
