Colorado: Governor Polis Verbally Declares Disaster Declaration For Wildfires in Montrose, Delta and Mesa County

DENVER ~ In a recent announcement, Governor Polis has declared a disaster declaration for the fires that have ravaged Montrose, Delta, and Mesa Counties. These fires were all sparked by a single weather event that occurred on Thursday, July 10th, 2025.

The Colorado Department of Public Safety (CDPS) has been actively involved in fighting these dangerous fires and will continue to provide support to local agencies as needed. The known fires in South Rim, Montrose County, SowBelly, Montrose, Delta, Mesa Counties, Turner Gulch, Wright Fire, Mesa County, and Deer Creek have all been included in this disaster declaration.

With the declaration in place, the State Emergency Operations and Resource Mobilization Plans have been activated. The Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) is taking charge of coordinating the state's response through the management of the State Emergency Operations Center. They are also deploying field operations staff to assist county emergency managers with managing the consequences of these fires.

The Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) is leading the efforts to manage and suppress these fires in collaboration with other CDPS divisions. The state is working tirelessly to bring these devastating fires under control and provide support to those affected by them.
