~ A panel of experts will be discussing the various ways a city can grow at a free event hosted by the City of Colorado Springs and Colorado Springs Utilities. The event, open to the public, will take place on Wednesday, August 28 from 6-8 p.m. at the Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center.
The panel will delve into important considerations for cities when it comes to growth and annexations, including economic development, infrastructure, state and local trends, environmental impact, and quality of life. Residents can register to attend the event in person or watch it live online at ColoradoSprings.Gov/AnnexCOS.
Katie Carleo, acting assistant planning director for the City of Colorado Springs, expressed excitement about bringing together a group of expert speakers from around the state to discuss growth in the region. She encourages residents to attend and learn from other communities' experiences as well as prepare for unique challenges that may arise in Colorado Springs.

The panel will feature Kelly Caulfield, Executive Director of the Common Sense Institute; Nancy Gedeon, demographer for the State of Colorado; Russ Sands, Section Chief at the Colorado Water Conservation Board; Julie Herlands, Vice President of TischlerBise; and Mark Tremmel, Principal Architect and Founder of TDG Architecture. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session.
This speaker panel is part of AnnexCOS, a plan by the City of Colorado Springs to thoroughly evaluate their approach to annexations in order to promote fiscal sustainability and resilience in land use. The City plans to hold additional public engagement opportunities specifically focused on AnnexCOS in the coming months.
