DENVER ~ In a move to simplify taxes for Coloradans and protect the state from federal overreach, Governor Jared Polis signed several bills into law today. The governor took administrative action on these bills, signing them into law without the need for a formal ceremony.
Among the bills signed by Governor Polis was HB25-1296, also known as the Tax Expenditure Adjustment bill. This bipartisan legislation, sponsored by Representatives Lorena Garcia and Yara Zokaie, and Senator Mike Weissman, aims to streamline tax processes for Colorado residents.
Another significant bill signed by Governor Polis was HB25-1312, which provides legal protections for transgender individuals. This legislation, sponsored by Representatives Lorena García and Rebekah Stewart and Senators Faith Winter and Chris Kolker, is a crucial step towards ensuring equal rights for all Coloradans.
In addition to these bills, Governor Polis also signed HB25-1321, which offers support against adverse federal actions. This bipartisan bill, sponsored by Representatives Julie McCluskie and Shannon Bird, and Senators Jeff Bridges and Judy Amabile, aims to protect Colorado from any potential overreach by the federal government.

Governor Polis also took administrative action on several other bills that were passed by the state legislature. These include HB25-1305, which extends the repeal date for a report from the Colorado Department of Early Childhood; HB25-1306, which alphabetizes plumbing profession definitions; SB25-054, which addresses mining reclamation and interstate compact; and SB25-204, which revises local government utility relocation statutes. All of these bills received bipartisan support in their respective chambers.
However, not all bills received the governor's approval. Governor Polis vetoed three bills: SB25-005 - Worker Protection Collective Bargaining; HB25-1147 - Fairness & Transparency in Municipal Court; and HB25-1065 - Jury Duty Opt-Out for Certain People. In his veto letters, the governor cited concerns about the potential impact of these bills on Colorado's economy and legal system.
Despite these vetoes, Governor Polis remains committed to working with state legislators to find solutions that benefit all Coloradans. As he continues to navigate the challenges facing the state, Governor Polis will undoubtedly continue to prioritize the well-being and prosperity of his constituents.
