DENVER ~ In a momentous event, Governor Jared Polis and Eve Lieberman, Executive Director of the Office of Economic Development and International Trade, joined together to celebrate the official sale of EVRAZ North America. The sale marks a significant milestone for the company and is expected to have a positive impact on both Pueblo and Colorado as a whole.
Governor Polis expressed his enthusiasm for the sale, stating that it is not only beneficial for Pueblo but also for the entire state. He acknowledged the steel plant's importance as a major employer in Pueblo and its significant contribution to Colorado's economy. The governor also shared that he had met with Atlas leadership and was assured that the plant's expansion efforts would continue, along with the creation of new jobs. Echoing similar sentiments, Eve Lieberman highlighted EVRAZ North America's role as a key contributor to both the Pueblo economy and the state. She noted that the company has invested close to $1 billion in building a state-of-the-art long rail mill and has provided employment opportunities for thousands of Coloradans. Lieberman believes that this sale will further enhance EVRAZ's presence in southern Colorado, ensuring its success for years to come.
To support EVRAZ's expansion in Pueblo, the Colorado Economic Development Commission approved up to $17 million in transferable tax credits through the 2017 Transferable Tax Credit Program. This decision was made considering EVRAZ's location in an Enterprise Zone.
The sale of EVRAZ North America is seen as a win for both the company and the economic vitality of southern Colorado. With this transaction, EVRAZ is well-positioned to thrive in Colorado for decades to come.
