DENVER ~ In a groundbreaking move, Governor Jared Polis has praised the adoption of an interagency agreement that will pave the way for the development of a starter passenger rail on the northern Front Range. The final unanimous vote, which took place today, marks the end of ten days of board votes by various agencies including Regional Transit District (RTD), Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), Colorado Transportation Investment Office (CTIO), Clean Transit Enterprise (CTE), and the Front Range Passenger Rail District (FRPRD).

The agreement, known as the "IGA", authorizes these agencies to work together in pursuing an access agreement with BNSF for passenger rail service from Denver to Fort Collins. This is a significant step towards delivering much-needed passenger rail service and is crucial in coordinating efforts across multiple agencies and the state.

Governor Polis expressed his enthusiasm for this historic agreement, stating that it sets the stage for Colorado to fulfill its promise of providing passenger rail service from Denver to Boulder and Longmont. He also highlighted the importance of connecting some of the state's fastest-growing communities and bringing this service to market as quickly and cost-effectively as possible through collaboration between transit agencies.

The Governor also acknowledged the thoughtful leadership of CDOT, FRPRD, and RTD in forging this new partnership. He believes that by working together, they can begin train service by January 2029. This will not only save time and money but also help reduce pollution in the state.

The Colorado Transportation Commission, Colorado Transportation Investment Office, Clean Transit Enterprise, and RTD have all unanimously voted to adopt this agreement. This shows a united effort towards achieving their goal of providing efficient and sustainable transportation options for residents in the northern Front Range.
