Colorado: Gov. Polis Urges House to End the Madness and Do Right by Coloradans by Starting Over on Federal Bill

Trending...
DENVER ~ In a controversial move, Senate Republicans have pushed through a bill that has been met with strong opposition from Colorado Governor Jared Polis. The bill, which passed by a single vote, has been described as "Big, Cruel, and Disastrous" by the governor.

According to reports from the Congressional Budget Office, the legislation is projected to increase the national deficit by nearly $4 trillion over the next decade. This has raised concerns about the country's financial stability and has prompted Governor Polis to call on Colorado's Representatives and House GOP to defeat the bill and start over.

"This shameful vote comes at the expense of hardworking Coloradans," said Governor Polis in a statement. "This bill is bad for our communities, bad for our economy, and will increase the deficit and balloon our national debt."

The governor also expressed concern over the potential impact on Medicaid funding. The bill includes cuts to Medicaid that could result in hundreds of thousands of Coloradans losing their health care coverage. It also fails to extend health care premium tax credits, which could further burden families with increased costs.

In addition to these concerns, Governor Polis has also highlighted other harmful provisions in the bill. These include threats to SNAP funding and food access for children and families, as well as potential job losses in Colorado's clean-energy industry.

Prior to reaching the Senate, all four Republican members of Colorado's Federal Delegation had shown their support for the bill by voting in favor of it in the House. This includes Representatives Boebert, Hurd, Evans, and Crank.

If this bill were to become law, it would have significant consequences for Colorado. The state could lose jobs and GDP due to cuts in federal funding. Additionally, rural and working-class areas would be hit particularly hard.

Governor Polis has consistently voiced his opposition to this legislation and has urged Congress not to cut Medicaid funding. He is now calling on the House to "do their part" and protect Americans from the harmful effects of this bill by starting over.

As the debate continues, it remains to be seen whether the House will heed Governor Polis' call and reject the bill in its current form.
