DENVER ~ Denver, CO - Governor Jared Polis praised Colorado's efforts to expand affordable housing options and remove barriers to housing in a press conference today. The governor highlighted the passing of three new laws that will go into effect on July 1, 2025, including HB24-1304, HB24-1152, and HB24-1313.
HB24-1304, also known as the Minimum Parking Requirements law, aims to eliminate unnecessary parking requirements that drive up costs and hinder the construction of new housing units. This will allow for more housing to be built in place of parking spaces. Similarly, HB24-1152, or the Accessory Dwelling Units law, grants Coloradans the freedom to build additional living units on their property.
Governor Polis emphasized the importance of these laws in creating more housing options for all Coloradans. "In Colorado, we are committed to expanding freedoms for building accessory dwelling units and removing unnecessary parking requirements," he stated. "These laws are another step towards providing affordable housing options for every Coloradan."

In addition to addressing housing concerns, Governor Polis also celebrated new legislation aimed at increasing public safety and promoting responsible gun ownership. He expressed his hope that these measures would help make Colorado one of the top ten safest states.
One such law is HB25-1138, which prohibits the use of any evidence related to a victim's appearance or lifestyle in civil proceedings involving sexual misconduct. Another is HB24-1130, which amends the Colorado Privacy Act to increase transparency around collecting and processing biometric data.
Furthermore, HB24-1353 requires firearm dealers in Colorado to obtain a state firearms dealer permit in order to possess and sell firearms. And finally, HB24-1174 raises the minimum standards for training classes required for individuals seeking a permit to carry a concealed handgun.
Governor Polis stressed the importance of proper training for firearm owners in keeping communities safe and preventing firearms from falling into the wrong hands. "Ensuring that firearm owners have the proper uniform training is crucial to keeping our communities safe and firearms out of the hands of criminals," he stated.
These new laws are a testament to Colorado's commitment to promoting public safety, responsible gun ownership, and protecting victims of sexual misconduct. Governor Polis hopes that they will continue to build upon the state's efforts to create a safer and more affordable living environment for all Coloradans.
