LITTLETON ~ LITTLETON - In a move to support Colorado's climate goals and protect the state for future generations, Governor Polis attended the opening of two new facilities today. The first facility, a solar farm at Denver Botanic Gardens' Chatfield Farms, was funded through Denver's Climate Action, Sustainability & Resiliency program. This solar farm will not only provide clean energy to power the entire site, but also generate low-cost energy for 150 Denver Public School families.
Joined by Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, Governor Polis participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony at Chatfield Farms. In his remarks, he highlighted Colorado's leadership in clean energy and conservation solutions. He also praised the use of agrivoltaics at the Botanic Gardens, which allows for both clean energy production and preservation of plant species and butterflies.
The second facility that Governor Polis helped kick off was the Auraria Sustainable Campus Compost Program Launch. This student-led initiative is the first of its kind in Colorado and aims to reduce campus waste by creating compost for trees, plants, and grass across campus. The program received a $129,150 grant from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) as part of their Recycling Resources Economic Opportunity (RREO) program.

Governor Polis commended the students for their passion for sustainability and their efforts to reduce waste on campus. He also noted that this initiative will not only benefit the campus community but also help the state in identifying ways to reduce landfill waste.
Earlier this month, the Department of Agriculture announced $500,000 in new awards for agrivoltaics efforts around the state. These efforts align with Governor Polis' commitment to promoting innovative solutions that lower costs, create a more sustainable future, and enhance Colorado's way of life.
As Colorado continues to prioritize clean energy and sustainability initiatives, these new facilities serve as examples of how collaboration between government agencies and community organizations can lead to positive change. Governor Polis' support for these projects highlights his dedication to protecting the environment and promoting a more sustainable future for all Coloradans.
