CARBONDALE ~ Carbondale - Governor Jared Polis made a visit to the Meadowood Housing project today, a newly completed 50-unit development aimed at addressing workforce housing needs for the Roaring Forks School District staff. The governor expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that "building housing that Coloradans can afford, and is close to work for our educators helps our rural communities thrive and our students succeed."
During his tour of the $29 million project, Governor Polis noted that it includes a variety of unit sizes, with eight studios, 10 one-bedroom units, 16 two-bedroom units, and 16 three-bedroom units. The development received $641,761.28 in funding from the High Efficiency Electric Heating and Appliances (HEEHA) grant program, which was signed into law by Governor Polis in 2022. One notable aspect of the Meadowood Housing project is that it is completely electric, with no natural gas lines.

The governor's visit to Meadowood is just one example of his administration's commitment to investing in affordable workforce housing across the state. In early August, Governor Polis announced 12 new units of housing for workers at the Buena Vista facility in collaboration with the Department of Corrections. This initiative aims to save workers money on housing costs and reduce their commute time.
Governor Polis has also taken significant steps towards addressing Colorado's housing crisis through legislation. Earlier this year, he signed historic housing legislation that promotes building near transit lines, allows Coloradans to build Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) on their property, eliminates unnecessary parking mandates that drive up housing costs, and eliminates discriminatory occupancy limits.
The completion of Meadowood Housing is a significant step towards providing affordable housing options for educators in Carbondale and beyond. With Governor Polis' continued efforts towards addressing Colorado's housing needs, it is clear that he remains committed to creating thriving communities across the state.
