DENVER ~ In the early hours of the morning, while many Americans were asleep, House Republicans made a controversial decision to slash Medicaid. The bill was passed by a narrow margin of one vote, with 215 in favor and 214 against.
Four representatives from Colorado were among those who voted in favor of the budget, despite previous promises to reject any bill that would cut Medicaid. These representatives include Hurd, Evans, Crank, and Boebert. On the other hand, Representatives Pettersen, Neguse, DeGette, and Crow voted against the bill.
The passing of this bill has sparked outrage from Governor Polis, who believes it will have detrimental effects on Colorado's economy and its citizens. In a statement released shortly after the vote, Governor Polis expressed his disappointment in the Republican members of Colorado's delegation for their decision to take away healthcare from vulnerable individuals and families.

The governor also questioned why this vote was held during the night instead of in broad daylight. He believes that this decision was made in secrecy to avoid public scrutiny. Governor Polis is determined to continue fighting for affordable and accessible healthcare for all Coloradans.
It is estimated that nearly one million people in Colorado rely on Medicaid for their healthcare needs. With these cuts being implemented, many will lose their coverage and face increased costs. Governor Polis is urging Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper to oppose these harmful cuts.
Fortunately, some members of Colorado's federal delegation have already taken a stand against these cuts. Representative Neguse has been vocal about his opposition to the GOP's plan to slash Medicaid. Last month, Governor Polis and Lt. Governor Primavera outlined how damaging these cuts would be for Colorado's children, seniors, and families.
As this bill moves forward to the Senate for consideration, it remains uncertain what its fate will be. However, one thing is clear - Governor Polis will continue to fight for the well-being of his constituents and push for affordable healthcare for all.
