~ The City Council of Colorado Springs is seeking passionate individuals to take on important roles in shaping the future of their vibrant city. In a recent press release, the council announced that they are looking for dedicated volunteers to serve on various Boards, Commissions, and Committees that are essential to the community's growth and development.
One of the opportunities available is a position on the Airport Advisory Commission. This commission's main responsibility is to provide advice on the airport master plan and any updates or changes. They also review long-term planning for the airport and make recommendations to the Mayor, City Council, and City Planning Commission. The commission meets on the 4th Wednesday of every month at 3 p.m. and currently has a vacancy for a voting member.
Another opportunity for volunteering is with the Civil Service Commission. This commission oversees the rules for classifying civil service employees in the police and fire departments. They also handle rules related to initial employment and promotions within these departments. The commission meets on the 1st Tuesday of every other month at 8:30 a.m. and currently has one vacancy for a Citizen-At-Large.

The Independent Ethics Commission (IEC) was created by the City of Colorado Springs to enforce its Code of Ethics for certain covered persons. This commission reviews ethics complaints and issues written recommendations to City Council. They also provide advisory opinions in response to inquiries. The IEC meets as needed and currently has one vacancy for a Citizen-At-Large.
The Police Department Advisory Committee is another opportunity for citizens to get involved in shaping their community. This committee advises on areas of study related to police operations, best practices, and resource allocation. They also seek public input and promote better relationships between the community and police department. The committee meets on the 1st Monday of every month at 6 p.m., with two vacancies available - one representative from District 2 and one from District 6.
Lastly, the Stormwater Advisory Committee is seeking a non-profit representative to provide citizen input on the city's stormwater system and enterprise operations. This committee also advises on projects to be undertaken. Meetings are held quarterly on the third Thursday of the month at 2 p.m.
