~ Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services (PRCS) is actively seeking input from the community for the development of a new master and management plan for Fishers Canyon Open Space. The second community work session will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
During the meeting, attendees can expect a presentation on the results of the engagement and environmental reviews conducted over the summer, as well as draft trail alternatives. This will be followed by an opportunity for members of the public to share their thoughts, ask questions, and collaborate with PRCS project managers and the planning team.
According to David Deitemeyer, senior program administrator for Trails, Open Space and Parks (TOPS), the community feedback received so far has been invaluable in shaping the Fishers Canyon Open Space Master and Management Plan. He expressed excitement about continuing this dialogue and exploring potential recreational opportunities while also preserving cultural and natural resources.

Fishers Canyon Open Space is located in the southwest foothills of Colorado Springs, bordering Cheyenne Mountain State Park to the south, Broadmoor Bluffs neighborhood to the east, and Pike National Forest to the west. Currently, there are no designated trails or official public access to this area. As such, it will remain closed until a trail system, trailhead, and management plan are established.
The goal of this public process is to create a guiding document that will establish sustainable recreational opportunities while also managing cultural and natural resources within Fishers Canyon Open Space.
