~ In a recent decision, the Colorado Springs Parks Advisory Board has voted to support changes to the City Code that would allow for the adoption of a new policy regarding the use of electric-assisted bicycles (e-bikes) in the city's park system. This move comes as a response to the increasing popularity of e-bikes and numerous requests from the public to expand their access within parks. The proposed ordinance will now move forward to City Council for final approval.
The motion was passed by a narrow margin of 4 to 3, with the recommendation being made to City Council for the approval of an ordinance that would amend the Code of Colorado Springs 2001. This amendment would specifically address the definition of electric-assisted bicycles, classifying them as non-motorized use and distinguishing between class 1, class 2, and class 3 e-bikes.
