Colorado Springs: June events on Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain

~ As the summer season approaches, Pikes Peak is preparing for a jam-packed month of June with a variety of events and activities for visitors to enjoy. From thrilling races to family-friendly programs, there is something for everyone on America's Mountain.

The excitement kicks off on Monday, June 2 with the start of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb testing. All uphill traffic to the summit will be restricted until 8:30am during this week-long event. However, visitors can still access Crystal Reservoir with a paid admission and $1 parking permit. The Pikes Peak Highway will resume normal operations at 8:30am. For more information on this event, visit www.ppihc.org.

On Friday, June 6, Pikes Peak will also be celebrating National Donut Day with a special event called "Leave No Crumbs". From 9am to 1pm, visitors can participate in an interactive "Donut Day Passport" and learn about water pollution, local wildlife, and the history of Pikes Peak donuts at Crystal Reservoir, Glen Cove, and the Summit. Donuts will also be available for purchase at all three locations. This event is free to attend but requires a timed entry permit or shuttle ticket. Admission can be purchased online or at the Gateway.

Father's Day on Sunday, June 15 will also be celebrated on Pikes Peak with a special discount for dads. With a paid admission and $2 timed entry permit, fathers can enter for free and enjoy all that America's Mountain has to offer.

From Tuesday, June 17 to Friday, June 20, Pikes Peak will once again hold all uphill traffic on the highway until 8:30am for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Practice Days. However, access to Crystal Reservoir will still be available with a daily entry and parking permit. The highway will open for normal operations at 8:30am. The highlight of the month will be on Sunday, June 22 with the 103rd running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The Pikes Peak Highway will be closed all day for this thrilling race. For those interested in attending, tickets can be purchased at www.ppihc.org.

For visitors looking to learn more about Pikes Peak and its surroundings, Ranger Interpretation Programs will be offered every Saturday and Sunday in June at Crystal Reservoir. These programs, which include talks about bighorn sheep, Pikes Peak history, and hiking essentials, are free to attend with the purchase of a One-Day Admission and a $2 Timed Entry Permit. For those who prefer not to drive to the summit themselves, shuttles are available at Mile 7. These shuttles operate daily from May 23 through select weekends in September from 9am to 7pm and make stops at key locations such as Crystal Creek Reservoir and Devils Playground.
